Why Join Cub Scout?

Below you will find information relating to the benifits of joining Cub Scouts. We will focus this on three key areas - Family, Fun and Excitement. I would also encourage you to spend some time on the links provided on our Links page.

Family:

One of the main purposes of Cub Scouting is family understanding. We do not believe in replacing the family structure or in creating the family, but rather in providing an opportunity to create an atmosphere for you to be able to strengthen your family. Cub Scout participation is not limited to just a parent and a scout to participate. We, at Pack 780, believe it is a time for the entire family to be able to participate together.

If you really think about it, we provide you and in most cases, your family a garaunteed amount of time each week to interact together in a structured program. Not many other programs dealing with youth offer this type of opportunity while maintaining the values that scouting has to offer.

Fun:

We have a commitment in our unit to try to provide each scout an opportunity to experience things that they might typically not have a chance to try. As a group, we can work together on fund raisers to cover costs to places such as Sleep With The Sharks, Tweetsie RailRoad, special event parties, family camping and many other opportunities.

Togehter, as a team, we can accomplish many different activities or trips. We always welcome other ideas to broaden our possibilities. We want each scout to be able to make the most of their experience as they grow and mature.

Excitement:

As the scouts get used to being in the program, we encourage them to give us ideas as to what they want to do. At times, we will put certains things up for a vote to foster a feeling within them that they decided on a trip or activity. This helps keep them engaged and anticipating the next decision they get to make.

The excitement is that they are to some extent in control of what we do. There are not too many areas in their life that they get to exercise this type of involvement. We try to keep meetings "busy" and free from the "schoolroom" syndrome. Other things that keep them excited include our annual Pinewood Derby Race and Rain Gutter Regatta.
