ParticipationOur philosophy with Cub Scouts at Pack 780 is a little different than most other youth organizations in the area, in that we seek to provide time not just for the scout, but time for the scout and parent to interact and grow together. We discourage parents from just sitting back. We believe there is something for everyone to contribute so that we can be the best we can. Parental involvement is not only crucial for the continued momentum of the unit, but also more important for you scout at this stage in his life. In a society where "we just have no time", this is your opportunity to have a structured time for you and your socut (and often times other family members as well). Camping and OutingsYes! We believe scouts should be OUT. Our pack will typically camp about two times a year. Typically in the fall, or at least have a day trip somewhere involving outside in the fall, and we also camp in the Spring at our district Spring Camporee. We try to make this as easy and educational as possible. Camping is not as hard and uncivil as many new parents in scouting seem to think. We have extensive guides and recommendations. If you follow what we say, camping will be very fun for you and your scout. We do family camp, so siblings are always welcomed to attend. Meetings:We are using a beta program that the National Division has been putting into place. Each leader has their year's meetings already planned. This will allow meetings to stay on course and easy to follow. If you happen to miss a meeting, you will be able to easily see what needs to be made up for your scout to advance. Fundraisers:We try very hard to provide each scout an opportunity to participate in activities that are exciting and "memory makers". We rely heavily on the fundraising efforts of the youth. We make every effort to minimize overhead on administrative expenses such as craft supplies where possible, which allows us to spend as much as possible on activities for the youth to participate. For a socut who participates in fundraising, we are typically able to pay for the scout and a parent to attend the "big" event each year. In addition, other siblings and parent are able to take advantage of group discount rates. We fully believe in spending as much as possible back on the scouts. Fundraisers also help cover meeting supplies and awards throughout the year. |
